My backyard

Speaking of ecosystems I would be remiss if I left out “Box Turtles in St. Louis Area Getting Health Checkup” by Blythe Bernhard at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. As someone who enjoyhaving pet box turtles in my childhood, I don’t want to leave out a dear friend.

Here kitty kitty

So with Elk back in Missouri now (See my Come On In and As We Welcome posts from early last year), it makes sense that mountain lions are making a comeback as well. Just last week there was this article all around the web just a few days ago including “Mountain Lions Recolonizing Their Historic Range in Midwest, Canada” by Matt McDermott at Treehugger.

What’s next? I’m thinking wolves or maybe buffalo. Time to get our ecosystem back in order.

Garbage in, garbage out

Okay, so not only does the garbage float in the ocean, it also sinks to the bottom. Here are two articles, on for the trash on top and one for what’s below.

The first article is “Pacific Garbage Patch has gotten 100 times worse in 40 years” by Jess Zimmerman at the Grist. With so much made out of plastic now, that makes sense.

The second article is by Dylan Stableford over at Yahoo! News entitled “’Carpet of Garbage’ covers sea floor in Sydney”. This is the part of the story that I must admit I never thought about.

Sincerely-
