Earth Day

Whenever I think of Earth Day, I think back to the one in 1990. Somewhere, and I don’t know where, I came across a flyer about the 20th anniversary of Earth Day and when I saw it, I decided I wanted to get involved.

I remember going to the first meeting and that they ask everyone there to introduce themselves and say why they were there. I think I said something about  Robert Kennedy and that he was my  hero.

So here we are in 2017 and Scientist have decided to march on Washington, D.C., just like the Women’s march on January 22nd, on April 22nd.So even though I won’t be able to get there and my opportunity to march in St. Louis (if there is  one) will also be limited, I will find a way to participate in Earth Day 2017.

While I don’t remember where I first found out about Earth Day 2017, here’s where I found out about Earth Day 2017 and the march. The article is entitled “March Madness: Mark your calendars! The March for Science is happening in D.C. on April 22 (Yes, that is Earth Day.)“over at the Grist.

Hopefully!

Belated Earth Day

Well, needless to say my Earth Day was a little busy. Filled with work and kids but none the less I did come across this article over at the New York Times entitled “Over Ever Green World” by Natalie Angier. I guess for me it pretty much sums it up.

I do plan however to get my kids out this weekend as there is our local Earth Day celebration over at Forest Park, my youngest son mentioned wanting to go to Russell E. Emmenegger Nature Park, there’s an Arbor Day celebration at Longview Farm Park where my daughter wants to go volunteer to help with the horses on Sunday and my oldest son wants to go to Jefferson Barracks (yet another St. Louis park) so we’ll no doubt be busy.

Oh yea, I almost forgot, hopefully (rain permitting) we’ll be going on our annual trek to Amphibian Night at the Jay Henge Shooting Range (I know, what irony). So happy belated Earth Day!

Sincerely-

Earth Day St. Louis 2012

I have to say that I was a little excited when I found out the article I wrote for Earth Day St. Louis 2012 was published by Yahoo! The article is entitled “One of the Nation’s Best Earth Day 2012 Celebrations will be in St. Louis” by yours truly at Yahoo!

Earth Day 2009 and nature

After finally finishing Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv and after my kids experience with Amphibian Night last week, I thought these two these two articles about Nature would be a great post for today.

The first is “The Future Is Going To Be Better Than It Used To Be” by Richard Louv at the Child and Nature Network website.

The other is “Got Nature? Why You Need to Get Out” by Andrea Thompson at Live Science.

Happy Earth Day!

The Lorax and Earth Day

In honor of my daughter and her love for Dr. Seuss, I think the Lorax says it all about Earth Day. The Lorax Project was officially launched today to help the rainforests in Madagascar, Brazil and China. Here’s the article in USA Today by Daniel Horgan and here’s the website.

Happy Earth Day!
